World Monuments Fund
The World Monuments Fund (WMF), headquartered
in New York is the only private non-profit organisation whose
objective is to preserve our cultural inheritance worldwide. Its
objective is to assure the survival of artistic and archaeological
treasures which are at risk of disappearance or destruction.
WMF provides financial and technical support
in conservation, training and research, and focuses the attention
of the public. It also provides legal support in the defence and
protection of our heritage. The organisation acts as a catalyst
concentrating on the masterpieces in danger, and brings together
a consortium of public and private resources, both financial and
technical, to safeguard these works.
As a private organisation the WMF can act rapidly
and with great flexibility when the need is urgent. Led by a team
of highly qualified advisors, WMF is capable of effectively organising
and channelling the increasing number of requests for help coming
from all over the world.
In its 40 years of experience the WMF has aimed
to enlarge its role of champion of conservation at an international
level, establishing affiliates in Europe and America, which participate
in choosing projects and managing the funds. Currently the WMF
has affiliates in Spain, France, Portugal and the UK.
